Book Presentation

On 17 September 2024, the President and CEO of DPU GmbH, Prof. h. c. Wagner-Pischel, invited interested members of the region to the presentation of the book “Loiben – Place of Inspiration – From Emperor Henry II to the Danube Private University (DPU) as a Meeting Place for Medicine, Art and Culture.”

Following words of welcome and an introduction by the Mayor, Univ.-Prof. Dr Nicole Nicklisch, Centre for Natural and Cultural History of Humankind at the Danube Private University, gave a lecture. She presented to around 100 guests the findings of her extensive research into the meeting place over a period of more than 1,000 years in various archives, especially the Library of the Province of Lower Austria and the Bavarian State Library. Together with other researchers, particularly in archaeology, she recorded these findings in the book now presented.

The site in Loiben has always been regarded as a “place of energy”, which, after a thousand years of eventful history, has now been revived as an inspiring meeting place for medicine, art and culture. These lands – including the surrounding area – were originally transferred in 1002 by Emperor Henry II to Tegernsee Abbey, which was characterised by a pronounced scientific orientation. Through this association with Tegernsee Abbey as a historical nucleus of science, the site of Loiben was predestined from the outset for a scholarly focus.
