Merit Scholarships

In 2025, the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy will provide the Danube Private University with an amount of approximately EUR 44,000 for the awarding of merit and promotional scholarships in accordance with the Merit and Promotional Scholarship Regulation 2024/25. Pursuant to § 61 para. 1 StudFG, the minimum amount of a merit scholarship may not be less than EUR 750 and the maximum amount may not exceed EUR 1,500.

A basic requirement is compliance with the duration of study in accordance with §§ 18 and 19 StudFG and the equivalence of citizenship in accordance with § 4 StudFG.

Further requirements for a merit scholarship are the completion of 30 ECTS per semester and a grade point average of no more than 2.0 as the result of degree-programme-relevant final examinations covering all courses of a study section. In the consecutive Bachelor’s degree programme in Human Medicine, this refers to the MED1 comprehensive examination, and in the Master’s degree programme in Human Medicine to the MED2 comprehensive examination of the summer semester 2025.

Application

Applications must be submitted by December 4, 2025, using the attached form to the Examination Office, attn. Ms. Raschbach (anja.raschbach@dp-uni.ac.at). She will also be happy to answer any questions regarding grade point averages. The awarding of merit scholarships is decided by the Presidency of the Danube Private University. A ranking of applicants will be carried out.

Since the number of applicants who meet the criteria may exceed the funds available, the minimum amount will be allocated until the budget is exhausted. This means that even students who meet the criteria are not necessarily guaranteed a scholarship. There is no legal entitlement.

As both the number of applications and the funds available fluctuate each year, a precise calculation can only be made once all applications have been received and reviewed. For this reason, no information can be provided regarding the chances of receiving a merit scholarship.

All applicants will be notified of the award or rejection (with justification), including their ranking.

Period of Entitlement (§ 18 StudFG)

  1. The period of entitlement generally comprises the period of study prescribed for the completion of diploma examinations, bachelor’s examinations, master’s examinations, viva voce examinations, teacher training examinations, or other examinations concluding the degree program or study section, plus one additional semester. If the academic or training year is not divided into semesters, the period of entitlement comprises the prescribed period of study plus half an academic or training year for the respective study section, taking into account any important reasons.
  2. For students who have completed the first diploma examination within the prescribed period of study, the period of entitlement in this field of study is extended by one semester in the second study section.

Extension of the Period of Entitlement for Important Reasons (§ 19 StudFG)

  1. The period of entitlement is to be extended if the student proves that the extension of the study period was caused by an important reason.
  2. Important reasons within the meaning of para. 1 are:
    • Illness of the student, if confirmed by a specialist medical certificate,
    • pregnancy of the student,
    • any unforeseen or unavoidable event, if the student is not at fault or only slightly at fault,
    • official university mobility programs.
  3. The period of entitlement is to be extended without further proof of the cause of the study delay:
    • in the case of pregnancy, by one semester (copy of the mother-child passport),
    • in the case of care and upbringing of a child before the completion of the sixth year of life, to which students are legally obliged during their studies, by a maximum of two semesters per child (copy of the birth certificate),
    • in the case of students whose degree of disability has been established at at least 50% under federal regulations, by two semesters (copy of the official notice of the degree of disability),
    • in the case of the performance of military or civilian service during the period of entitlement, by one semester for every six months of service (copy of the relevant official notice).
  4. Pursuant to § 75 para. 15 StudFG, the entire period of entitlement pursuant to § 18 para. 1 StudFG shall be extended by the transfer to new curricula pursuant to § 80 para. 3 UniStG only insofar as this results from the longer study period or the higher number of study sections.

A double degree program or employment does not constitute a criterion for extension! In degree programs divided into sections, the study duration must be observed in all sections.
