Lifelong learning – STATE OF THE ART

Through lifelong learning with constantly updated knowledge, we want to help dentists acquire the key resources for success in practice and treatment and thus be ready for a constant innovative change in dentistry.

Enrolment in a part-time Master of Science (MSc) programme ensures a high quality of professional competence through a structured, comprehensive enhancement of state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.

The master's programmes are suitable for all age groups. While more experienced dentists want to give their practice and their career new impetus by studying, their younger colleagues see it as an opportunity to specialise in a subject of their choice and start their career with high standards. The dentists experience new knowledge, discover new impulse and gain deeper insight through the ideal of "lifelong learning". With a postgraduate course, students set themselves the very highest standards, thus enriching their professional and private lives. The academic degree of "Master of Science in Specialisation (MSc)" allows them to identify themselves as specialists to their patients.

Quality Assurance

The highest standards in science, teaching and practice are created through renowned academics as lecturers, their excellent didactic skills and programmes geared towards dental excellence practices, as well as within the framework of routine evaluations by AQ, the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria, and confirmed by the master's students themselves. The courses are organised into modules over three years, allowing them to be fully integrated into the practice organisation for practising dentists. The high demand proves the international acceptance and recognition of the mainly German academics and lecturers at DPU and other leading universities, who provoke enthusiasm and joy for new knowledge and innovative treatments among their students.

Exchange with colleagues

Students find themselves in a group of interesting colleagues seeking to further educate themselves. The professional exchange between colleagues, the friendships and practice cooperations that develop are also a resource of competence for practice work that should not be underestimated.

Improving the success of practices

Supported by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists and the German Dental Association, the IDZ (Institute of German Dentists) has concluded that, based on annual revenue statistics, specialised dental practices (for example, in implantology, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics and aesthetic-reconstructive dentistry) bring in significantly higher revenue from fees (between 40% and 100% more) than general dental practices.  This is one of the reasons for the success story of the Master of Science programmes at DPU.

Studying part-time in accordance with EU guidelines

A modern master's programme offers more than just professional training. In accordance with the EU guidelines for recognising academic master's degrees, it is organised over six semesters with a workload of 90 to 120 ECTS and 45 to 50 days of attendance, allowing for part-time study in modular organisation alongside the running of a successful practice. Between the regular modules, students can immediately apply what they have learned in their practices.

After fulfilling the European ECTS requirements (master's thesis of approx. 40 A4 pages, documentation of eight to ten practice cases, multiple choice tests, written/oral exams), graduates of the dentistry programmes receive a "Master of Science (MSc)" degree and the corresponding specialist title, e.g. "Master of Science in Oral Surgery/Implantology (MSc)" or "Master of Science in Orthodontics (MSc)", but more importantly they gain great opportunities for a more successful practice.

The outstanding success of the MSc programmes is demonstrated by the fact that one third of students have already started or completed their second, third or even fourth Master of Science in Specialisation (MSc) degree.
